The knee is subject to injury from sports or other accidents. This complex anatomical structure is made up of three bones, three compartments, two menisci and ligaments, cartilage, tendons and muscles. As a leading San Antonio Chiropractic clinic can attest, this makes it vulnerable to injuries.

When someone continues to walk on a sore knee, the fact that it must bear weight increases the hurt. In addition to an injury there are other causes of knee pain. It can be a degenerative disease such as arthritis or a foot or back problem that causes someone to walk in a way that stresses the knee.

All age groups are liable to be affected. A fall down the stairs, twisting the leg or even stepping on a stone unexpectedly can cause an injury. The muscles found in a knee can be strengthened if you exercise frequently.

Your first office visit is a time for asking and answering questions. The goal is to determine what caused the hurt and how severe it is. A medical history will be taken.

A physical examination of the knee, hip, spine and foot will be conducted. Any abnormalities will be evaluated. This may reveal what part of the anatomy may be causing or contributing to the painful condition.

The chiropractor will ask to watch you walk from one side of the office to the other. That will shed more light on why you are having pain. When the evaluation is complete, you will be advised as to what care will be most beneficial.

Many of these conditions will improve in response to chiropractic care. This care includes a series of manual adjustments. These are delivered directly to the knee and adjacent areas.

A method called myofascial release loosens tight and overworked muscles in the leg, hip and lower back. It is a technique that is similar to massage. By relaxing these muscles it restores flexibility as it alleviates the intensity of the pain in your knee.
