This is one of the greatest breakthroughs in the world of medicine today. Its main goal is to make the patient's skin look younger. It is especially beneficial to persons who suffer from the presence of wrinkles, lines or blotches on their skins. These conditions may be brought about by cases of acne, old age or long hours of exposing the skin to direct sunlight. The following are therefore details on laser resurfacing treatments.

The surgery is done by removing several layers of the top most skin. The inner layer which is left is composed of new cells which make the skin appear tighter and healthier as compared to its original form. According to how much work that is to be done, this procedure may be carried out on its own or it can involve a combination of other surgeries.

Just like any other type of surgical procedure, it is important for the patients to carry out consultations with either their surgeon or dermatologist. During the session, they are supposed to disclose any relevant information. This includes whether they are prone to cold sores or any kind of blisters. The importance of such revelation is that the laser resurfacing may cause breakouts of the skin in individuals with sensitive skins.

After consultation has been done and the patient decided to carry on with the treatment, they are advised to cut off any medications such as aspirin. This is because they interfere with the process of clotting. Also, individuals are instructed to quit smoking two weeks before and after the surgery is done as it slows done the healing process.

It is also important to know that once the procedure is done, the patient is allowed to go home on the same day. According to the patient's preference, this may be done on just parts of the face or the entire face. For the specific parts, the doctor may remove wrinkles around the eyes, or even the forehead and mouth and lasts for forty-five minutes. This just requires numbing on the specific areas. For the entire face, a general anesthesia may be required and it takes around two hours for it to be complete.

The treated areas are usually bandaged after the procedure is done. After a period of twenty-four hours, the bandages should be removed and the areas cleaned four to five times a day. Ointment is then applied to avoid the formation of scabs. It is important to note that swelling is absolutely normal in this case. It may however be reduced if one sleeps on an extra pillow at night.

Most patients complain of experiencing an itchy sensation for about three days after the surgery. The skin may also appear to peel every now and then. The healing process may take a period of between ten days to one month depending on how complex the procedure was. Once one is done healing, they are recommended to use makeup which is devoid of oil to reduce redness which will disappear on its own in three months.

In conclusion, this laser resurfacing treatment may not give one a perfect skin, but it leaves them looking better than they did prior to the surgery. The associated risks of this procedure include burns, scarring of the skin and uneven pigmentation. This is why it is important to seek a doctor's approval before the procedure is undertaken.
