There are a lot of people who self medicate during the allergy seasons. Because they lack information about health issues they may have they are ill equipped to decide on the right medication. Without the proper medical knowledge, many people are choosing treatments that are not the best available. Those with Atlanta skin allergies may choose the over the counter, OTC, therapy.

There are so many medications available at the drug store without prescription and those prescribed by a doctor. If you do not get the help of your practitioner you will likely not make the best choice for treating your specific symptoms. There are many OTC medicines for allergy so it is not easy for consumers to make informed decisions about the treatment to choose.

In addition, folks need to know which gel tab, nasal spray, or capsule is safe. People who have various medical concerns are put at risk for various complications when taking OTCs. Those who are taking prescription medicines can suffer some serious adverse effects from over the counter allergy treatments.

Many people do not contact their physician for allergy problems because there are an abundance of medications on the counter at their neighborhood pharmacy. The problem is that the majority of the products only take care of the basic allergy symptoms. The OTC does nothing for inflammation that causes other symptoms. The prescription meds are more effective and are not likely to cause drowsiness.

Decongestant nose spray is available OTC and typically it is overused since it is less effective than prescription spray. The prescription offers quick relief to they are not likely to be used for extended periods. An allergy shot is quite effective and better than OTC remedies. Although allergy shots cost more, they have long lasting effects.

The most common allergy therapy is the antihistamine and decongestant. They typically come in a nasal spray and relieve stuffy sinus due to inflamed membranes. Some of the over the counter types cause drowsiness while prescription sprays do not. Eye drops that contain antihistamine help relieve the itchy and watery eye effects of pollen.

Blood tests can identify allergy but testing the skin will provide a more concrete diagnosis. Skin tests are very safe and offer a comprehensive picture of a persons allergy profile. Having the right information, so that you can make a good decision about treatment, is very important. Make sure that you check with the doctor prior to taking any medications.
