Dental implants are surgical devices that support bridges, dentures, crowns and other dental prostheses by interfacing with the skull or jawbones. They are also called endosseous implants or fixtures. When one is in need for the best dental implants Maui should be the place to make a visit to. Dental experts in Maui have the qualification to install and make any corrections to these fixtures at affordable costs.

The implant is usually made of titanium and resembles a tooth root. It is positioned into the jawbone through surgical means to appear below the gum line. The dentist can then mount a replacement teeth or bridge in that region of the mouth. Not everybody is a suitable candidate for this surgery. The patient must have healthy gums with sufficient bone for supporting the implant.

If the patient has jawbones that are too thin or soft, they may not qualify for the surgery without having a bone graft done to them first. The jawbone needs to be strong and big enough to offer support to the component. For those with insufficient bone height a sinus lift may need to be performed. Bone grafts and sinus lifts are precautionary procedures that provide guarantee that an implant will function correctly.

This whole process depends on a process referred to as osseointegration. Osseointegration is a process where the implant forms an intimate bond with the jawbone, providing enough strength and support to hold prostheses in place. When an intimate bond is formed, prostheses are held strongly and they cannot shift in the mouth when one is speaking or eating. The implants should be allowed time to osseintegrate before prostheses are mounted onto them.

There are two kinds of dental fixtures that the American Dental Association recognizes and recommends as being safe, that is, subperiosteal and endosteal fixtures. Surgery is used to implant endosteal fixtures into jawbones directly before being allowed to heal. Another surgery is necessary for linking original fixtures and posts. It is safe to mount prostheses after this second surgery.

Subperiosteal types comprise of metal frames that surgeons fix onto jawbones under gum tissues. During healing, the metal frames become fixed to jawbones. The posts that are attached to the frames can be seen through gums. Prostheses are attached to the posts. Both types of implants are common in the US as well as in other nations globally too.

The various benefits associated with implants often make them preferable to many people. Some of the advantages they offer include improved self-esteem, speech, , and comfort. They look similar to natural teeth and as because of osseointegration, they are usually permanent. These makes them to improve aesthetic appearance of the mouth. Permanence of fixtures increases comfort and ease when eating, something the sliding dentures to not offer. Most remain in good shape for a lifetime if one provides good care to them.

When compared to other techniques of tooth replacement, dental implants cost high. Most insurance firms only accept to cover ten or a smaller percentage of the cost of installing them. It is important to consult with the insurance firm before having the surgery.
