Horse keeping requires an expert who will detect when the animals are in pain. Unlike human beings who can speak out of the paining parts, ponies cannot. They become less active and feed less. Once you find your horse seated on its haunches appearing to be in pain you need to call a veterinary. If the horse tends to be slow during the workouts then something might be bothering it. You need to be observant of how it is performing. In case you use your horse for pleasure, make sure you look at how it performs during the little hours you are with it. They are prone to many illnesses like the navicular syndrome in horses.

The problem is due to malfunction of the hooves of the horse. You can keep your horse safe from the illness by not overloading it and feeding it with foods rich in calcium. Make sure your young ponies are in good shape and they are not suffering from the illness. The condition has no age limit it can affect a horse or even a pony that is one year old. Only the front hooves get this condition. If you use your horse to transport heavy loads, you might be risking their wellbeing.

The bone becomes immobile causing poor blood circulation in the hooves. If the condition is not treated on time, the coffin bone sinks into the floor of hoof and may even pierce the hoof bottom. Only the front feet experience this condition but even the other feet are affected. Animals that are stall-kept and are used for manual work are at higher risk to get this problem. Avoid loading your horses with heavy loads.

What really happens is that the bones can no longer move they become fixed in that position. This leads to poor circulation of blood in its legs. The problem continues to grow until the coffin bone starts to sink deep inside. This might lead to the piercing the bottom part of the hoof. Once the front legs are affected all the other falls victim.

The body size of a horse determines the probability of it getting this illness. The quarters and thoroughbreds are highly affected by the condition because their legs seem weak. Avoid buying this type of breeds. This is the only sure way to avoid dealing with this problem.

The common sign of this syndrome is when they place their body weight on their toes. This helps them to avoid pressuring their heel when walking. At this stage of the problem, the heel has already become inflamed in the bursa and the bone. A bursa is the outermost lining bone layer. The heels of a pony tend to be smaller due to the poor confirmation.

The strides made by a pony may shorten. Call the medical expert if you not that it is shifting its weight when it is resting and stumbling gait. Any abnormal resting is an indicator of a condition.

Be keen on how the animal land. If it is infected with this condition, it will have difficulties landing. Look at its hooves to see if they have tired. Keep contacts with a medical expert who treats your pony.
