Dark self tanner products have come onto the market to help people achieve a nice, brown tan so that they needn't expose their skin to the sun's harmful UV rays. Many people would like to have a tan that looks attractive and natural, but are afraid of the outcomes of the dark self tanner products. Of course, on television the models all look terrific with perfect skin tones, but when it is tried at home, some rather peculiar happens can occur.

There is nothing that could be as disappointing as picking and using your favorite dark self tanner only to end up with a skin that looks orange and artificial. People would shout you down as phony. Your self-esteem will take a nose-dive, and you will have wasted a good deal of money buying a product that does not serve you wholly.

This problem can be solved by taking some time to do a little research, and understanding why these problems occur. The products on the market today are also much better than what they used to be, and create a very natural-looking tan. The orange color that may be caused by a fake tan product is due to its ingredients. The most important of which is Dihydroxyacetone. In a dark self tanner product, this ingredient is responsible for changing the skin color. Used too much though, will cause the undesirable orange effect. Select a product with a lower amount of this ingredient.

If a dark self tanner product is not carefully applied, the results could be an orange skin as well. There could also be problems with an uneven skin color, with streaks of white or darker discolorations. The directions on the product must be strictly followed, and it is a good idea to cover your hands during the application as well.

Dark self tanner products that are produced nowadays have a green-based tint, which is their color base. This is preferably because it goes well with all skin types and colors. A good tan is created because most skins have a red undertone which is compatible with the green tint.

People who have used dark self tanner products will also tell you that the scent of the product is something that may discourage many from trying out the product. The strong scent is caused by the same chemical that makes your skin to turn orange. While a few people might be able to put up with the scent, many manufacturing companies have come up with creative ways to reduce the scent.

Certain dark self tanner products have quite a strong smell, which is mostly considered as pleasant. The skin will then smell more like it has been smoothed with a body lotion, rather than a tanning product. The user of Dark Self Tanner should just be aware that their skin could have an allergic reaction to certain fragrances.

A person who would like to use a dark self tanner product could consult their doctor or dermatologist beforehand. Advice from a professional will reduce the risk of undesirable outcomes. Most of the time, though, the products are so well formulated that an allergic reaction or other problem is unlikely. There are challenges to using fake tan products, but if you follow the instructions the process should work well.
