The terms pinched nerve and herniated disc are interchangeable. Each refers to what occurs when a subluxation of the spinal vertebrae exerts pressure that causes a portion of the disc to bulge out between the small bones. The discs serve to keep those bones from impacting each other as the person moves. A person suffering back pain can find relief by visiting the office of a prominent Land O Lakes FL Chiropractor.

The intervertebral discs are a soft, gel-like substance contained within a tough fibrous outer shell. Each is like a cushion between two vertebrae. The vertebrae can be moved out of place and as a result they cause a part of a disc to bulge out. This causes back pain that ranges from severe to excruciating.

Sitting hunched over a desk at work for eight hours a day may cause back pain. In addition to posture in a seated position, standing and walking may exacerbate back pain as well. It is possible that a herniated disc can develop over time.

Any job can involve lifting, bending awkwardly or twisting the torso. This can lead to a pinched or herniated disc over time. A sudden abrupt movement or being in an accident can also be the cause. Good chiropractic advice can alert an individual to actions that lead to this painful condition.

Prior to receiving care from the chiropractor, a full evaluation of your condition must be conducted. You will be asked to describe the pain, when it started and what you think caused it. Your spine will be examined and an x-ray taken. When the evaluation is complete, a care plan will be recommended.

It is often a series of spinal adjustments to return the vertebrae into the correct position. As the pressure causing the pinched nerve is reduced the pain is alleviated. The series of adjustments are done in the chiropractors office. As your condition improves you can look forward to resume working and enjoying life once again.
