Many people in 2016 fear that their job could possibly be taken away from them. A lot of companies are reporting mass layoffs and the oil industry has recently been hit as well. A lot of employees in the oil and gas industry are now seeking jobs in other industries. There is obvious a crisis going on in the world today. However, do medical billers have to fear their job is at risk? The answer to this question is yes and no. History shows that healthcare is a growing field. We have a baby boomer generation that is now beginning to seek healthcare. It is estimated that there will be around 100 million people needing senior care over the next decade.

A lot of billers today are still in shock over how ICD-9 and ICD-10 vary. These two coding systems work well in some areas and are completely new in others. It is important to get familiar with ICD-10 since it is what is used today. Many coders found themselves out of work around November of 2015. The main reason for this is that they don't know how to work with the new coding system and failed to get an education in the area. It takes a lot of education and work experience to do it correctly.

Years ago, billing was considered to be something that you can learn on the job. Now a days, billing has changed. Medical coding and billing has to be learned in school or by taking courses on the internet. Of course there are workshops that you can attend in order to enhance your education. It is best to talk to people that want to see you succeeding. It is important to put all of the pieces to the puzzle together. Allow others to see that success is right around the corner and will make sense once all of the pieces to the puzzle have come together.

If you feel that you are skilled enough to keep your job and are having trouble collecting on claims, you are not alone. Many software companies are beginning to see the need to build systems that are catered to that particular industry. This means that if you own a treatment center, you will use customized treatment for inpatient care. It would be a system that a chiropractor uses because it is almost always outpatient care. Most chiropractors see their patients at the office and then bill them.

A medical billing job is most popular in big states like New York, New Jersey and Illinois. It is important to seek a job that you feel most comfortable with. If you are like me, you probably want to see more benefits coming your way. It is important to have a lot of knowledge about coding before you get started. Finding the correct codes takes time and effort. You have to know what you are doing exactly to make something work. You cannot be good in billing if you don't know how the system works.
