As far as beauty goes, we're all limited by the DNA we've been born with. However, a designer skin can greatly enhance what nature gave us to work with. One has to wonder why so few people take care of theirs.

Perhaps they're under the impression that it's time consuming and costly. Or, more likely, they don't listen to the simple truths our grandmothers told us while growing up. The truth is that it's not difficult to obtain. All we need do is listen to the sensible advice that's been rattling around in our brains since childhood.

Beauty comes primarily from within. It's virtually impossible to be gorgeous without being healthy inside. The food you eat really does make a difference.

Focus on dark berries and fruit. Include hazelnuts and almonds for vitamin e and oily fish for omega 3 fats. Collagen is vital to prevent aging and you can up your levels by including strawberries and broccoli in your diet.

You'll be amazed at what consuming the right amounts of water will do for you in just 3 days. It's the epidermis' internal moisturizer. There are tests proving its efficiency but once you've done the experiment yourself, you'll need no proof. On cold or moderate days, drink eight glasses a day. Drink more on hot days.

Your grandmother was right: wear an SPF at all times and stay out of the sun as much as possible. This can't be stressed enough. The sun causes aging, dark spots and wrinkles. Remember that the sun will get you even when you aren't on the beach. Applying sun block should be in your daily routine.

That being said, a glowing tan is a necessity for a high fashion epidermis. It lengthens limbs, evens tone and hides a multitude of flaws. Fake tan isn't the orange nightmare it used to be so invest in a good one and apply it every four days.

Use one that colors skin immediately on application so you can create even coverage. Don't use it directly after using an alkaline soap. Give your body a scrub to loosen dead cells, which prevent smooth tone. Gloves are now available for application so you can avoid letting the whole world know your tan's fake with bronze palms.

Now you're left with one last thing: a routine relevant for your age and earning power. There are aspects that are important for all ages though, the most important of which is to moisturize well. Great products don't have to cost the earth but they will have earned a name for themselves. Find the best by seeking the advice of the real experts: those who have great skin themselves.

Keeping it gentle is another piece of advice that applies to every decade of one's life. When exfoliating, choose a product with rounded beads or sugar rather than abrasive scrubs containing, for example, egg shells. Use a toner free of alcohol and cleanse with a gentle product that's able to clear pores without using alkalinity or drying agents.

Maintaining all aspects of this routine will be easy and worthwhile. The aim is to prevent damage before it happens, rather than spending fortunes trying to fix them. Designer skin is available to all.
