There are many areas in psychology folks can focus their education. One very interesting area is the scientific study of behavior. In the field of Applied Behavior Analysis Alabama students learn to use specific interventions. The practices are centered on assumptions of how folks learn. Applied Behavior Analysis or ABA, explores how an individuals environment influences their behaviors, how behaviors can be modified or reinforced, or changed in a constructive way.

It is important to understand when to use ABA. This is an objective discipline that focuses on the analysis of data and observation of behaviors. The goal of this type of therapy is to assist individuals with autism, mental illness, developmental disabilities and other challenges such as PTSD to make behavior changes that are socially significant. Therapy often begins with an assessment used to develop a treatment plan.

The therapy assists clients with learning new skills or tapping in the those that already exist and not being used currently. These are typically communication, social, and adaptive skills. The behavioral analyst will have a masters in ABA. Also, they will have completed a specific number of hours of practical application supervised by licensed practitioners. The last step is to pass the state board exam for certification.

There are laws that are in place for licensure and regulations that regulate the practitioners. Every state and jurisdiction has a website to the government agency that regulates these professionals. For example, the licensing board issues the licenses or other credentials needed to practice in that particular region. Folks are able to find current laws and regulations pertaining to the field.

Information and links to websites offering relevant regulations, laws, and rules needed for licensure and certification application. They also offer information on materials and forms you will need. When the information is not on the website for your region it is typically because the laws are very new and credentials have not yet been issued. In this case there will be links to the new laws.

If you need information about the law, rules and regulations, or the application process, you can contact the regulatory body or agency. Most jurisdictions offer links to ABA organization websites in each region, county, or state. In addition, the sites often provide supplementary information about the local and state laws and regulations that govern ABA practices.

The BACB was established in 1998 to meet the needs for professional credentialing. These needs were identified by behavioral analysts, consumers of the services, and governments. The requirements for certification, content of the exam, and practice procedures are regularly reviewed based on international standards. All requirements and examination content of BACB are established by experts in this discipline.

Individuals interested in this area of psychology should examine the various programs offered on campus and online. There are some very credible programs that will prepare the student for this interesting field. Find out if the program you are interested in is accredited before registering. Once you have completed your bachelors and masters degree you may want to go one step further and obtain your doctorate in the field.
