The major work that a dental surgeon does is to diagnose patients and to treat teeth problems, gums or other parts that are related parts with the help of particular techniques such as radiography which is replacing the photography. There are general qualities that all teeth doctors should have so that they can build a healthy relationship with their patients. These are leadership skills, detail oriented, listening skills and excellent communication skills that will enable him to relate well with his patients, assistants and other medical doctors. Also, he should be a good leader and be proficient in working with his hands and be able to work long hours and be a good problem solver.

To become a dental practitioner, one must attend a degree program in a recognized dental school. Students majoring in science such as chemistry and biology might increase their chances of being accepted into a dental school. College undergraduates who wish to major in dentistry usually take the Dental Admission Test (DAT) so that they can be considered for intake.

To become a qualified doctor who deal with tooth, there is an additional training program that you must attend to study a specialty that you choose. The training takes a period of two to four years. Practitioners who are in the general practice do not require these additional studies. Some of the dentists who decide to delve into research or teach on a full-time basis must study for two or four years more in a dental program that is advanced.

Teeth surgeons must obtain a working license in their municipalities. The license requirements are different in each city, therefore, it is important for them to be aware of the rules. A tooth doctors should have a degree certification from a recognized dental school. He/she should also pass the National Board Dental Examination to be qualified. Any physician who wishes to have a private practice in the given specialties should obtain a license for that particular field.
