Chiropractors have been seeing patients for headache relief for many years. Recently a method called Active Release Technique, ART, has been developed to enhance the already effective chiropractic techniques. Headache sufferers will be glad to hear about Long Island Active Release Technique, a new way to find safe, natural relief from pain.

ART is an advanced chiropractic method for treating soft tissue, which includes the tendons, ligaments, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Doctors of chiropractic have observed that these soft tissues developed scar tissue when subject to repetitive motion or trauma. The scar tissue affects the surrounding muscles, tendons, etc., and alters movement. In time the surrounding soft tissue can become shortened or weakened. This in turn may result in decreased range of motion or pain.

Basically, your chiropractor uses his hands to determine which areas have been affected by scarring and massages the soft tissue. This has the effect of breaking up the scar, which frees the soft tissue so it can return to normalcy.

This description oversimplifies ART, which has greater than five hundred specific massage movements. Each patient receives individualized care based on their health and the location of the affected area.

The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health conducted a study which showed that twelve percent of absences in the workplace were due to headaches. The study also showed that ART significantly improved the condition of headache sufferers and relieve pain.

If you consider what scars look like outside the body, it is easy to imagine its effect inside the body. When your body is injured on the outside due to trauma or surgery scar tissue forms with thickening and tightening of the skin. Bodies are constantly shedding skin cells so the effects and the scar fade with time. Inside the body the scar has adverse effects on surrounding soft tissue. Any part of the body affected by scar tissue can benefit from ART.
