Sciatic nerve pain is noted as one of the most painful types of all pains, and it can be hard to know how to deal with sciatica. Many cases of sciatic nerve leg pain, also known as sciatica, occur from a problem with the discs of the spine. There are many descriptions given for spinal disc problems, such as herniated disc, slipped disc, bulging disc, and protruding disk.

Anyone who's had sciatic nerve pain knows it is one of the most painful types of all discomfort, and it can be difficult to know what steps to take to eliminate it and keep it from reoccurring. Most cases of sciatic nerve leg pain, also called sciatica, arise from problems with the intervertebral discs of the spine. Some descriptions given for spinal disc abnormalities are: slipped disc, herniated disc, protruding disk and bulging disc.

There are many treatments for helping eliminate sciatic nerve pain, and treatment by a chiropractor is one of the best methods of helping get rid of the pain. A number of scientific research studies have shown that chiropractic treatment for sciatica and spinal disc problems offers a safe, conservative, alternative to back surgery.

A chiropractic doctor can provide treatment including traction, spinal manipulation and electrical stimulation of the muscles to help the injured discs of the spine to heal and relieve irritation of the sciatic nerve. One study reported that 90 percent of those suffering from a herniated disc were improved by chiropractic care. Perhaps, more impressively, none were made any worse! This is a high success rate for any healthcare procedure, and chiropractic care has been proven to be a very effective method of treating physical and mechanical low back pain.

Chiropractic care allows the body to heal. Patients will almost always heal at differing rates, but following the chiropractor's advice and recommendations will typically allow pain relief as soon as possible. Of course, if a patient does not respond to treatment, the chiropractor doctor can refer that person for another opinion and advice.

Here are some things that can be done to help improve sciatic nerve pain and reduce the chances of future sciatica:

If you are prone to sciatic nerve pain, try not to spend too much time sitting in the same place. Remaining sedentary causes pressure to be placed on the lower discs in the spine, which can cause pain. Try not to remain seated in the same position for more than 20 or 30 minutes, and try to avoid sitting in soft chairs that are uncomfortable and don't provide adequate support for your back.

When you first wake up in the morning, it is crucial that you do some exercises to help your muscles to loosen up. Stretching your back gently is very good way to ensure that your lower back doesn't get injured, because the lower back is vulnerable in the first hour after awakening.

Take your wallet from your back pocket when driving, and make sure to sit up straight.

Using cold packs to the lower back for 20 minutes several times per day for a number of days can diminish swelling in the low back and give some relief of discomfort.

Those suffering from sciatica may obtain relief with effective, safe, alternative healthcare methods like chiropractic care. It's certainly worth investigating in the event of sciatic leg pain.
