If you are thinking about esthetics school, there are a host of things to consider before you enroll. The first big hurdle is trying to decide if beauty school is even a good career choice for you. While you may love makeup and skin care, attending a laser institute might not be high on your list. If you love hair, but could leave the aesthetics behind, cosmetoglogy might be a better choice. Choosing a school, then, that offers the type of curriculum that you are hoping to learn is paramount.

Before committing fully to a program that will require time, energy, and money, it is a good idea to try to determine which esthetics school is the best fit for you. In addition to this, even taking a day or two to really research your options could potentially save you heartache and wasted time, oh, and expense. You might want to do the following: make a list of schools in your area and plan to visit most of them, start saving every penny you possibly can now and prepare yourself for any changes that might be coming.

Chances are good that if you live in a rural area, you have at least a few, if not more, options for esthetics school. Trying to choose one from the white page listings alone might be a little tricky. Instead, you might consider making a master list from those same white page listings and then plan to visit those programs closest to you or that interest you the most. A big decision at this point is whether to schedule your visits or arrive without an appointment. If you arrive with an appointment, you will most certainly be able to meet with a counselor or other professional to tour the school and get further information. This approach, however, might not give you the most accurate "feel" for the program. On the flip side, if you choose to arrive unannounced, you may get a more true feeling for what the school is like on a daily basis, but you might also be unable to meet with someone to get your questions answered and might not even be able to tour the school unless someone designated to do so is available when you arrive. If you choose one approach over the other and it doesn't work out, don't worry! You can always try the other at a later time.

Once you have selected an esthetics school, it's time to start saving your pennies! I mean, let's be honest here, most types of schooling don't come cheap. And this is certainly true for any cosmetology program, laser institute, or esthetician program. With schools of beauty, the general rule is the better the school, the more you can plan to pay to attend there. You get what you pay for. Good schools will teach you the correct core curriculum and prepare you adequately for the State Board exam. Great schools go even a step further and provide a happy, healthy learning atmosphere, clean facilities, and ongoing continuing education. Saving before school often eliminates the added stress of paying for school while trying to attend school and provide even basic needs such as housing and food.

Now, it's time to prepare. And we are not just talking about admission paperwork and school preparations before your first day of class, but also any other life adjustments. Change work schedules to accommodate school before classes start. And for extra support when things get tough, consider letting family and friends know of your decision. Sometimes this makes all the difference when you would otherwise give up. And since school generally takes between 600 - 1,600 hours to complete, having some additional support will certainly help you through the tough times.

While an esthetics school or laser institute provides an exciting skill set for after graduation, doing your homework and adequately preparing before commit to any program may make all the difference.
