You will not hear the temporomandibular joint being mentioned in the usual chit chats but without this joint, you cannot open or close your mouth. This joint is one of the unique joints in the body, and it allows the sideways, backwards and front movement of the jaw. In most cases when you feel pain in the jaw or near the ears, the most likely case is that this joint has a disorder which is referred to as a temporomandibular joint disorder. In case you start feeling pain while chewing or yawning most likely you are suffering from this disorder. Most people relate this pain to cold, heat or even drugs administered over the counter e. G. Try rubbing it by massaging the area that are around the jaws so that you can relief the muscle tightness and ensure that you have enhanced the blood flow in this area. You should also try opening your mouth and rubbing the muscles that are near the temporomandibular joints.

When you are in a situation where you are sitting all day on a chair, it will be better for you if you can sit straight up instead of leaning. Ensure that your chin in never in a position where your body is behind it. When you lean forward, then it means you are straining your back and neck that increasing the intensity of the pain. If you feel that the reason that the temporomandibular joint is painful is that of the clenching and grinding of teeth, you need to get a mouth guard. You can find this in a sports store. There is a difference between this guard and the one that is custom designed by dentists. However, if you the sports store to mold one that fits you, that too can be done.

You need to avoid eating crunchy and chewy foods. You need to stop eating hard dinner rolls, carrots, apples and beef jerky. This is so as not to overwork the jaw especially when the pain is severe. You can take pastas, soups or any other food that you can eat with ease. The bites that you take should be small, and the portions should be small. You need to avoid tea and coffee at this time as caffeine, and temporomandibular joint are not friendly. The caffeine will only lead to increased muscle tension.
