Chiropractor is a health profession mainly concerned in diagnoses, treatments and preventing mechanical disorders of musculoskeletal system and effects of those problems to the overall health and the working of the nervous system. Chiropractic treatment is not a single treatment but rather a healthcare profession. In this regard, chiropractors use one or more treatments. For instance, there is substantial evidence that manual therapy that uses spinal manipulation as commonly practiced by chiropractors is effective in treating chronic lower back pain. However, there is not enough evidence that use of spinal manipulation could be effective to treat other musculoskeletal conditions such as joints, bones, and soft tissues. Therefore, manual therapy does not form a strong basis to recommend chiropractic treatment.

Good chiropractor, however, try their best and work within their power in order to assist patients as well as relieve them from pain and other symptoms within as short time as possible. They also aim at using minimal treatments and offer advice to their patients to avoid the various conditions like the sciatica from recurring in future. Since there are various philosophies and different techniques used by chiropractors, it is always important that patients ask all the relevant question in order to be aware of the diagnoses and the treatment programs.

During a first time consultation for chiropractic treatment, the patient follows a similar process as in other visits to other physicians. The patient fills out a form so as to provide enough background information on matters relating to the condition and the symptoms. The practitioner may also seek to know when the pain began, the location of pain, whether it is sharp, dull, searing or throbbing pain, and if the pain is caused by an injury and the likes. The patient may also be required to provide more information about his and his family medical history.

A chiropractic exam usually involves various tests such reflexes, blood pressure, pulse and respiration. The exam can as well include orthopedic tests and neurological tests so as to examine the motion of in affected parts, muscle strength, neurological integrity as well as muscle tone.
