Your spine is made up of a series of bones called vertebrae. Small discs lie between them and keep them from rubbing against each other when you move. The spinal cord, which contains the nerve roots, runs through these hollow bones. When a disc is herniated, that means part of it protrudes and is compressed because the vertebrae are misaligned. A leading Butler chiropractor sees this injury after car accidents and football collisions.

There are only two things you need to know about your spine. The first is, you are suffering from severe pain and need to find help to alleviate it. The second is, chiropractic care offers proven techniques to help ease that pain.

The sufferer might have been hurt in a car crash. Or, the cause may be a degenerative disc disease. When the vertebrae are misaligned it is likely a herniation will be the end result. An exam will confirm a herniation.

Your spine is assessed visually, palpated and an x-ray is taken. You will thoroughly explain how you feel, how it impacts your life and how severe the pain feels. Range of motion testing and postural evaluation will be done.

A herniation exists when a portion of one of the intervertebral discs protrudes from between the vertebrae. For that reason, it is often called a slipped disc. At the end of your exam, you will be advised what the optimal care plan is.

If spinal adjustments are recommended, a series of office visits will be scheduled for them to be administered. Each successive adjustment will move the vertebrae closer to the correct position. This frees the herniated portion of a disc and allows healing to take place.

As the severity of your pain subsides you can look forward to returning to work. You can take part in hobbies you once enjoyed. Your chiropractor will give advice on how to maintain the best spinal health possible.
