Sunless self tanning lotion is a good commodity for getting bodies glowing with shiny tans within hours or minutes. There are several producers on the market which produce tanning lotions that it becomes difficult to pick a commodity. This gets many buyers into confusion not knowing what to purchase. As such, one should be equipped with some information on sunless self tanning lotion before getting out to purchase it.

To begin with, one has to know and understand the ingredients which a specific sunless self tanning lotion includes in its formula. The list of all ingredients contained in any sunless self tanning lotion is usually written on the can in which the lotion contained. One should read the list before purchasing to make sure that their skin or body is not sensitive to any.

In fact, a good place to start from before buying a sunless self tanning lotion is making a visit to a personal doctor. The doctor should be able to guide on the kind of sunless self tanning lotion one can use without getting unexpected skin reactions. In case one used a product without consulting a doctor and unexpected reactions occur, it would be best to halt the use of the sunless self tanning lotion and seek medical help immediately.

Some of the key unexpected results most people experience include blackheads, pimples, sense of irritation, rushes, and skin allergies. Some effects only stay shortly and fade away whereas others remain for long. Those that stay for long must be checked by a health physician.

Any sunless self tanning lotion comprises DHA, the abbreviation for dihydroxyacetone, as the main active constituent. DHA is a kind of non-toxic natural sugar. Mostly, it is extracted from beetroots and/or sugarcanes. Most manufacturers apply it in the natural form in most of products. Dihydroxyacetone works efficiently and never results in any known medical problem in the long run. Users who apply lotions which have it are normally satisfied with results and never want to change products.

DHA works on skin layers and does not infiltrate into body systems to damage organs. It interacts with amino acids contained in proteins on skin surfaces to lead to a browning effect. Development of the brown tan is similar to the commercial activity by which foods change their color in storage and processing companies. The skin glows with radiant natural tans after some hours of use.

The major limitation however is that tans never last for long since they are only formed at the surface. They fade away after about 3 days when dead skin sloughs off. The tans therefore have to be maintained through regular application of the sunless self tanning lotion.

A DHA based sunless self tanning lotion is however not 100 percent safe. Some are made harmful by some additional ingredients that are added into them by the manufacturers in form of tan accelerators, bronzers, tan maintainers, and preservatives. Some of the additions are harmful and require one to pay attention to the list of ingredients in any sunless self tanning lotion before buying.
