Many individuals wear false lashes to draw attention to their eyes. Depending on the lashes, they can look fake but it can also be difficult to tell that they are not natural. Some people do not want to wear them because they believe applying them is difficult. Most good quality eyelashes are not that difficult to apply and they form a fitting frame for beautiful eyes.

Many different types of lashes are available. They do not come in just one size or shape. Natural looking lashes may be short or long and some are much fuller than others. One can even buy single or trio lashes. Ones that have an invisible or clear band are more discreet than a black band.

Lashes are made from a variety of materials, including human hair, silk, horse hair, mink, sable and synthetic materials. Synthetic lashes are used by most people because they are strong and often look as natural as real hair but they are less expensive. Of course very cheap products may not look natural at all as they have a waxy, plastic appearance.

When choosing lashes, it makes sense to keep the shape of the eyes in mind. Upturned eyes are likely to require a different shape of lash to ones that turn down. Eyes that are deep set look better with full, long lashes and those that are more prominent will look odd with very long lashes that make them stand out even more.

There are many different ways of applying lashes. False ones are applied at home whereas eyelash extensions are applied by professionals who glue them to existing lashes. False lashes are applied directly to the top of the lashes. Some of them are glued on and others work with magnets that make them easy to apply and remove. It is better to use dark glue than clear glue for application because clear glue can leave a white residue whereas dark glue simply makes lashes look darker.

Sometimes adjustments need to be made to lashes as they may not always be exactly the right length. It is better to hold them up to the eye lid and adjust the length by cutting before application. False lashes should not be glued to the eyelid itself but to the top of the lashes. Otherwise, the effect may not be natural because of the slight gap between natural and false lashes.

False lashes are not water resistant so you cannot wear them in the swimming pool or the sea. Shedding tears can also loosen them. It is best not to touch them too much either as this may also loosen them.

False lashes can be worn more than once. Just use tweezers to take off excess glue and remove them. If mascara has been applied, use eye makeup remover to clean them and they can be worn again. It is an individual choice as to whether to apply mascara before or after applying false lashes. Those who wear strip lashes usually add mascara after applying the others to blend all the lashes together so they appearance is more natural.
