The care that is provided by a chiropractor is not the same for any two clients. A technique that alleviates the hurting caused by sciatica for one person may not be successful for another. This is true even when both have the same condition. A unique plan will be created for each person by a leading Plantation Chiropractor.

This is necessary due to the fact that any one of a number of possible conditions will exert pressure on nerve roots. It is this compression that causes the pain of sciatica. Depending on specific needs, more than one method of care will be administered to achieve optimal results.

A subluxation of the spine located at the lower back is responsible for causing the pain. If a person lifts something heavy or twists the body in an unnatural way, nerves are likely to be impacted. Degenerative rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or a tumor may press against one or more of the nerve roots. If these nerves are obstructed for any reason, it is going to hurt.

Methods of relieving the pressure and pain are chiropractic adjustments. Adjunctive techniques such as heat or cold applications provide pain relief. To be most effective, a regular schedule of appointments should be in place to continue care and promote healing.

There is no benefit to be gained by inactivity. A short period of time, limited to one or two days of bed rest may be advisable. After that, a mild exercise routine recommended by your chiropractor is likely to assist in the healing process.

In the absence of exercise, the muscles in the back may deteriorate. The inactivity can weaken them. Hamstring muscles, which are on the backs of the thighs, are especially susceptible to tightening up. This can affect the lower back, leading to pain.

Your chiropractor can affirm that exercises are appropriate prior to starting. The adjustments to the back will achieve the reduction in pain caused by acute sciatica. The goal of going back to work can be realized. Start working towards that goal by making your first appointment.
